Meet people through music
Paper Rival was an indie rock band formed in late 2005 from Nashville, Tennessee. Originally known as Keating, the band changed its name to Paper Rival in 2007 after a tour in Canada where the band was mistaken for a Canadian band who already possessed the name. In December 2007, Paper Rival was named Spin.com's "Artist of the Day." The band released its debut full-length album, Dialog on May 20, 2008. The group cites artists Broken Social Scene, Neutral Milk Hotel and Bruce Cockburn (whose song Pacing the Cage was covered on their 2007 self-titled EP) as musical inspirations. According to a press release, shortly after releasing their first full length album, the band took a break allowing lead singer Jake Rolleston to return to finish his college degree. Jake further clarified his departure in a letter to absolutepunk.net, stating "There were many reasons that I decided to leave the band. School was NOT the reason that I left the band. I have always wanted to go to college and get a degree and leaving the band has made that desire far more palpable. However, I left the band because I was not happy. It was as simple as that." He went on to further explain various difficulties that the band had faced throughout its existence. There is no news on whether the band will reunite for future projects at this point.
