About Tapes
There are at least 3 artists called Tapes: 1. Chillwave and hip hop beat artist out of Columbus, OH via Knoxville, TN. Albums with free download at Bandcamp page. 2. Dub and reggae producer signed to Jahtari. 3. Jukka Salminen is a Finnish singer/songwriter and Tapes is his alter ego. Tapes started when Jukka moved to England in the autumn of 2002 to continue his photographic studies. There he started to play acoustic guitar and write songs. Tapes is about beautiful songs played with an acoustic nylon-strung guitar. The songs are usually quite specific documents about a certain moment or feeling. Most songs are quite short and fragile, and have some kind of photographic content. Tapes is about "shooting Polaroids with a guitar". Tapes released a debut album on January 2006, simply called "Tapes". The album contains 10 songs: 8 1/2 Tapes songs and 1 1/2 cover-songs. 1 1/2 covers because Jukka also plays in a band called Tigerbombs and covers their song "Highway". The other cover is a Metallica song - "Fade to Black". It is a song that reveals Jukka's past as a heavy metal-fan. The song is arranged for an acoustic guitar and is performed as a Tapes song should be performed: quietly and beautifully. The eponymous Tapes album is out now, published by Aisti Records and distributed by Playground Music. Tapes is currently working on a new album that he hopes will be released in 2008. The album is being produced by Samae Koskinen, a Finnish songwriter and the lead singer of Sister Flo. The album will show another side of Jukka's songwriting being more powerful and yet organic.
