About Wascal
From his first release under the Wascal moniker in 2007 through to his recent output on a plethora of bass music labels, Bristol based breakbeat-botherer Will Andrews has infiltrated the ranks of the post-dubstep diaspora while never sticking to one sound for long enough to get pidgeonholed. Wascal's music combines influences without prejudice from the last 20 years of electronic music; from early acid house and rave to cutting edge bass music via jungle, garage, techno and dubstep. This open-minded approach that informs Wascal's music makes his style often hard to pin down; A Wascal track is just as likely to be a clattering, tracky techno tune as it is to be a moody garage one. More often than not it will be both at some point in the space of 5 minutes, with a smattering of glitched out edits thrown in for good measure. His dancefloor focused, yet detailed and intricate production style has led to international radio play from the likes of Mary Anne Hobbs (BBC Radio 1, XFM), Laurent Garnier (PBB), Distance (Rinse FM), Swindle (1Xtra), Eddy Temple Morris (XFM) and Kion (Ministry Of Sound) to name a few. Wascal's distinct disregard for genre purism has led to releases and remixes for a diverse list of labels; notably remixing the Fuel Records classic 'High Volume' for Si Begg's Noodles imprint, remixing Foreign Beggars & Jazzsteppa's 'Raising The Bar' for Studio Rockers, and producing a handful of remixes and releases on Kid606′s TigerBeat6 and Cut La Roc's Rocstar labels recently - also finding the time to release original tracks on acclaimed future garage label L2S, his own low key TTKK label, and of Kraymon's Louse Records. Earning his DJ stripes as a resident at Cardiff's seminal (now sadly defunct) Techno night 'Holodeck', over the last decade Wascal has been honing his rapid-fire DJ sets of glitched out garage, dubstep, rave & techno with gigs across the UK and Europe - most recently at Glade Festival, opening the spectacular Meteor stage. Wascal also hosts a fortnightly show on Sub FM - Sundays 7-9pm GMT (http://www.sub.fm) and occasionally releases EP's on his own 'TTKK' imprint http://wascal.bandcamp.com
