About Xen
Solo project from 1999 of the former Enchant drummer Paul Craddick together with further members of the band. Also a Peterborough (UK) based trio in the late 1990's Enchant, this time changed: The former drummer Paul Craddick along with three further band associates as well as various guest musicians have created an album that is filled with the typical Enchant prog sound that is laden with groovy and alternative rock elements. Xen was also the name used by Jon Haire (guitar) Phil Whitting (bass) and Nick Neale (drums) for an experimental band originally formed to use some free studio time at Will Savage's Jigsaw recording studio. After recording at Jigsaw, recording some tracks at Jon's workshop, and a few gigs including the BBC music live in Peterborough UK, the band faded after Nick moved to Ipswich, Suffolk. Xen is a california dj/producer, an unorthodox approach and traditional roots, Daniel shows us a wide array of influences. taking cues from movers and shakers like rhymesayers, definitive jux, and stones throw; he shows no fear to merging genres and styles. growing up in an musical enviroment and having a deep affection for everything from Hip Hop Beats to indie (Fugazi, Elliot Smith, Etc.), from Beat Poetry to Math Rock, & back again. Xen exposes a depth not many beatmakers today hold, a flair for the odd. Combing Acid Jazz tendencies with a Trip Hop turntablism vibe, these tracks groove in and out of the "boom bap" formula. jamming with musicians and even working on a live band, there is alot more to come from this california loopster. having been working in the shadows for a few years now, Xens time to shine has been put on hold too long. with releases coming this year with unreleased material & new material, keep a look out for this up and coming producer.
