Having lived near Newcastle for a while, have to say that city has hands down the best music venues, from dark n grungy places like Thinktank? and Head of Steam, to the rock-tastic Trillians, to more ecletic and diverse ranges of music you can enjoy at The Cluny or Cobalt Studios, for a dancier sesh the Lofts has a decent vibe. For larger anthemic bands the Boiler Shop and Riverside are sound, and even at 02 city hall you get a cracking view cos of the sloping floor (beers extortionate, but then it is O2). Honestly there is no other city like it. I miss it :/ Overall I'd say the Cluny is the best - quality PA, good views, friendly crowd, attracts impressive repertoire of bands, great beers, top location. If anyone is ever in Newcastle go check it out!!
